Materials San Diego Leadership 2018 acknowledges the generous contribution of the “Clara Barton” and Helics Scientific Networks Corporation towards supporting this award.
September 31, 2018, is the nomination deadline for the Materials Sience 2018 Conference.
About the Award
The Materials Science 2018 Postdoctoral Awards identifies postdoctoral scholars who have been displaying promising excellence during their postdoc assignment in various associated fields. This includes, for instance, excellence in scientific research, leadership, advocacy, outreach or teaching.
Award Package
The contents of each award are a $4,00 honorarium, citation certificate, 50% discount on next Genome meetings registration fee to attend the Genome USA 2018 Meeting, where the award is presented, besides a one-year Helics Scientific Networks membership. Up to four awards may be given each year in different Genome conference, initially.

Rules and Eligibility
Those postdoctoral scholars who have been nominated for the Materials Science Postdoctoral Award are eligible to earn it, provided they meet all necessary criteria.
The consideration criteria are not determined and restricted by class or area of Materials Science research/ Materials Science Education. However, Postdocs who continue to be in this position at the meeting where they receive the award will be preferred more.
It is not necessary that the nominee or nominator be a Materials San Diego 2018 member. Current members of the Awards Committee, its Subcommittees, and Materials San Diego 2018 Board members are not eligible to be nominated for this award. The Materials San Diego 2018 Board approves the selection of the Materials San Diego 2018 Postdoctoral Awards on the basis of a recommendation from the Awards Committee and their decision remains final. The awardee must be present at the respective meeting.
Defining postdoctoral scholar: A postdoc is an individual who holds a doctoral degree and is engaged in mentored research and/or scholarly training in order to acquire the professional skills required to pursue a career path of his or her choice. Individuals who hold a tenure-track or have permanent staff positions do not have the eligibility.
As per Materials San Diego 2018 policy, no self-nominations are permitted nor late submissions accepted. Nominations submitted remain active for one meeting only.
Administration
The Postdoctoral Awards Subcommittee of the Materials San Diego 2018 Awards Committee manages the awards. It is the responsibility of the Subcommittee to solicit and evaluate the postdoctoral scholar nominations on a semi-annual basis, apart from selecting the Materials San Diego 2018 Postdoctoral Award recipients from a pool of qualified nominees.
Nomination Submission Information
The Materials San Diego 2018 Awards Nomination Submission website portal can be used to submit nominations.
The nomination will be submitted through the Materials San Diego 2018 Awards Nomination Submission website portal. The nominator may access the system via their Materials San Diego 2018 Customer ID and Login information. The required nomination information includes:
1.Nominee and Nominator Information
The following details are entered by the nominator onto the online form: Full name, organization, mailing address, email address, telephone number.
2.Proposed Citation
The proposed citation must not exceed 30 words and are to be entered into the online form.
Avoid flowery descriptors and summarize achievements that make it worth a nomination.
3.Nominator statement (upload PDF file, two pages maximum)
This statement includes information that supports the award suitability of the candidate with respect to:
a. the specific, precisely defined, recent research achievement proposed for recognition
b. the impact of the achievement within Genome-related field and way in which it effects other sciences, and
c. the innovative and keen quality of the candidate's work
4. Curriculum vitae of the nominee , including a list of the candidate's 10 most relevant publications with proper citation, titles and including a citation analysis (upload PDF file/four pages maximum)
5. Letters of support from two established scientists who are familiar with the nominee's qualifications and research area.
- Nominator will have to receive the PDF files from supporters before uploading the same to system
- Supporter must make specific references to the criteria (first two bullets) listed in item 3 above
- A letter should be on official letterhead and must include the supporter’s signature
- Letters should be formatted as a PDF file; two pages maximum for each
Submission Procedure
The web portal for submission of a Materials San Diego 2018 Award nomination will open and close on the published date1 of each award. The nominator may access the system by using their Materials San Diego 2018 website credentials. Nominations remain active for one meeting only.
