Jayne Donaldson

Dean of Faculty Health Sciences

Professor Jayne Donaldson is a Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse Teacher, and keen interest in healthcare services provision, particularly in terms of the quality of care provision, and service redesign and improvement. Jayne has held a few Senior Management positions within the Scottish healthcare and Higher Education sector, and is a member of Council of Deans Health Scotland and UK.

 

Jayne has extensive experience in systematic reviewing, and these have included debridement of surgical wounds, the use of herbal medicines in the treatment of psoriasis, and the effectiveness of hospital-based alcohol brief interventions. Jayne's research interests have used mixed methods and randomised control trials, and has successful PhD student completions and external/internal examinations for PhD, Clinical Doctorate and Professional Doctorate students.

 

Jayne's current personal research projects includes the development of a tool for the diagnosis of frailty during urgent care episodes, and the diagnostic accuracy of a biopsy technique used in prostate cancer. Both of these projects are funded externally.

 

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport conducts world-class research and leads the way in key areas affecting individuals and society.  Our nursing degrees prepare nurses to meet the needs of their modern profession and to provide the best possible patient care. Postgraduate multi-disciplinary programmes and our health and population research impacts globally. Sports scholarships support talented athletes and partnerships with the sports industry ensure students have every opportunity to prepare for careers of their choice. Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, sport is at the heart of University life at Stirling. Evidence of our attainment can be seen by our achievement of: the highest UK REF 2014 score for research environment in Allied Health submission; being top in Scotland for Allied Health Research; and highest Scottish Sport submission for research outputs.
