Dr van Wijk was born in Swellendam in the Western Cape, South Africa. She earned a Doctoral (University of Cape Town) and Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing (University of the Western Cape), a diploma in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science (University of the Western Cape), a Bachelor’s Curationis B CUR degree in Nursing Administration and Community Health Nursing (University of South Africa), a diploma in Nursing Education(University of South Africa), a diploma in Psychiatric Nursing from Stikland Psychiatric Nursing College, a diploma in Midwifery Nursing and a diploma in General Nursing Science (Both from the Otto Du Plessis Nursing College, Tygerberg Hospital.
As a senior lecturer, Dr van Wijk holds national credentials as an Advanced Psychiatric Nurse, teaching at the Western Cape College of Nursing, Cape Town, South Africa.
Due to her expertise in Gender Based Violence, the Nursing School at the University of the Western Cape appointed her as external moderator for the gender based violence component. Evalina is actively involved in various diverse communities-Voluntary trauma Councilor at the local Police Station, offer voluntary assessment and therapy (Defusing, debriefing, councelling, Cognitive Behavior, Family and Couple Therapy) for any person-(children and adults) who were victims of any form of abuse and trauma (Those who can’t afford private treatment).
Evalina plays an active role as guest speaker at diverse settings such as schools and community forums –e.g. Post traumatic Stress, Drug and Alcohol, Bully behavior, Self assertiveness, parenting skills, stress management etc. Because of her expertise, various novice researchers approached her for support with their Master’s and PhD dissertations. Her background includes 41 years of experience as an educator and clinician in all settings in which care is provided. As member of the Research and Research Ethics Committee, Evalina is an advocate promoting the conducting of research and encourage professionals to publish their research findings for evidence practice. Van Wijk published in local and international peer reviewed journals and presents her research at National and International conferences.
Evalina has appeared on local radio stations and news papers. She was also been quoted in newsletters (UCT) and journal articles. She is a consummate blogger and a regular contributor to HuffPost.She is the author of one self published books: Me, my mother and Alzheimer’s disease. United States of America.
