Dr. Sherry Arvidson was born and raised in Canada. She grew up on the prairie province of Saskatchewan and lived the life of a farm girl before moving to cities within Canada and eventually venturing to the United States once she completed her diploma in nursing in 1991. Sherry’s education best represents a classic model of life long learning. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Nursing, and Doctor of Nursing through distance education over a time span of nine years while raising a family and working full time as a Registered Nurse. Workplace balance, time management, and prioritizing needs all remain strengths that Sherry has been recognized for and during her educational career has received several awards to support her efforts and dedication to lifelong learning. Her most recent award received in 2016 was the President’s Teaching Award of Excellence from the University of Regina. With this award Sherry had the honour of presenting a workshop entitled Instructional Strategies to Enhance Critical Thinking andattend the International Nursing 2016 Conference in Dubai,United Arab Emirates where she presented her doctoral research.
Dr. Arvidson is currently employed with the Faculty of Nursing at University of Regina as an Assistant Professor. She is working collaboratively with colleagues in various research projects and as a Research Associate with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region. Dr. Arvidson completed the Doctor of Education degree specializing in curriculum and instruction in 2015. Her area of research focused on nursing student perceptions and experiences of service-learning using heuristic phenomenology. Her scholarship activities include: chapter book contributions, presentations at national conferences, peer review work including journal articles and textbooks, and manuscript writing for publication. Dr. Arvidson is actively involved in research, teaching, and scholarship activities. Her main areas of research include: Student success, outcomes, social justice, social determinants of health, cultural competence, and patient safety.
