Dr. Bukonda is full professor of Public Health Sciences at Wichita State University. He received his MPH (1989) and his PhD (1994) degrees at the University of Minnesota. He has lectured at various academic institutions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Zimbabwe and USA. He is member of and has assumed leadership roles in many scientific, professional and community organizations. He is author and co-author of more than 100 scientific presentations and about 3 dozens of articles/abstracts. His research interests include but are not limited to primary health care, policies of essential drugs, teamwork, hospital accreditation, quality improvement and safety of medical care, private health care entrepreneurship, management of community pharmacies, health of older internally displaced persons. He served as President of the National Association of Health Systems Administrators in the DRC (1980-1987) and as a consultant for Joint Commission Worldwide Consulting. He co-authored a study of the Zambian national hospital accreditation program (2001-2003). He worked with colleagues at the Botswana-Harvard Partnership Institute for HIV Research and Education on a “Male Involvement in the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS” study (2001-2002). He served as principal investigator of a USAID-funded two-year long HIV infection prevention project in Eastern Kasai, DRC (2004-2006). He was invited by UNESCO to speak at the 2008 Global Forum Research Seminar (Paris, 2008) and by CODESRIA to serve as a facilitator at the 2008 CODESRIA Institute on Health, Politics and Society in Africa (Dakar, Senegal: October 13-18, 2008). He is scheduled as a key speaker at the 7th International Conference on Epidemiology & Public Health (Melbourne, Australia, July 30-31, 2018).
