Dr. P.K. Bajpai - Professor & Head Department of Pure & Applied Physics and Dean, School of Physical Sciences has actively shared the leading responsibilities in bringing up this upcoming university towards greater heights. Apart from establishing the prestigious Centre for Accelerator Based Research – a 3.0 MV Particle Accelerator Based Research Centre (first in any University in the country), he has established Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Centre (SAIF) from Department of Science & Technology, Special Assistance Program (SAP) in Physics from UGC and FIST from DST. He has also brought Centre for preservation of endangered languages from UGC. Apart from being the Head of Pure & Applied Physics (for 20 years), Dean of Sciences, Physical Sciences (twice), Member of executive council, GGV for two terms, he has shouldered the major administrative responsibility as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) (2010-2017), Chairman Purchase committee, Chairman Roaster committee and Convener- Draft Committee of the university in addition to several important assignments. He is responsible for drafting the policies and plans, their implementation, monitoring the developmental activities of the university, coordinating with UGC and MHRD, allocation of budgets, monitoring the implementation of various plans, responsible for university purchase, instrumental in the preparing the structure of national level examinations for admissions in GGV now called VET and VRET examinations, and drafted several academic and administration reforms. He is also coordinated the framing of statues, ordinances, rules and regulations, engineering projects and all such works that are entrusted to him by the Vice-Chancellor under the supervision of the Vice-Chancellor.
A first class passed High School and Intermediate from U.P. Board, Allahabad (Merit Scholarship holder) he did his graduation and Post-Graduation in Physics ( First class first) from Bundelkhnad University, Jhansi. He joined the Ph.D. program in North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong after passing out Pre-Ph.D. in A-grade and was awarded Ph.D. in Physics in 1988. His Ph.D. work was selected among the six best Physics thesis for S.NB. Satyamurthy Award by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) BARC, Mumbai in 1987. He was Post-Doctoral Fellow in IIT, Kanpur working with Professor Bist and was awarded CSIR, Research Associate ship. Professor Bajpai, joined Institute of Self Organizing System & Biophysics, NEHU as a Lecturer in Aug. 1988 and later on Department of Physics, NEHU in 1994. He also worked as a member of Indo-French program , UGC Visiting Fellow (IACS, Jadavpur with Prof. Deepankar Chakravorty), INSA-COASTED visiting fellow (Japan) and visited several countries as invited speaker/Visiting fellow including USA, Japan, China, Italy and Myanmar, visited Yangon in 2005-06 & 2006-07 as Expert in Quantum Electronics to assist R & D in Myanmar under the Tripartite agreement between Govt. of India and Govt. of Myanmar.
A very well-known condensed matter physicist, having multifarious research activities ranging from advanced electronic ceramic material development, material modification through ion beam-matter interaction, semiconductor nano-particles, bio-photon emission and bio-spectroscopy, Dr. Bajpai has published more than 260 research papers in reputed national/international journal/conference proceedings, including more than 126 in international journals with high impact factors.
Prof. Bajpai is also very active in disseminating the scientific knowledge and has organized more than 25 International/ national conferences in the department at Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya. He has successfully supervised research students leading to Ph.D. (11) M.Phil (22), M.E. by research(01), MCA (01) and more than 200 Post graduate projects. He has also received eight sponsored research projects from various funding agencies (UGC, CSIR, DST, DAE, IUAC) and have successfully completed them. In addition, he brought prestigious departmental programs as Coordinator in the Physics department in SAP(UGC) and FIST (DST).
Dr Bajpai has been very active in establishing the department’s right from the inception of his career. He has established Bio-photon laboratory in the Institute of Bio-physics & Self Organizing System at NEHU, setup by UGC, was very active in installing various sophisticated instruments at RSIC, NEHU. Established Institute of Technology, G.G. University as its first In-charge Director and the Department of Pure & Applied Physics almost single handedly from the beginning as Head and developed internationally competitive Materials Science Research Facilities. He has also brought Nodal Computer Centre in Guru Ghasidas University as its Coordinator and Instrumentation Maintenance Facility (UGC) at Guru Ghasidas University.
Dr. Bajpai contributed immensely for the development of the University just after his joining the place. In addition to developing the Department of Pure & Applied Physics as a well recognized centre of higher studies & research in Physics he worked almost in all capacities in the university academic administration and in statutory bodies. He represented the Vice-Chancellor in several important meetings such as in the state level committee for regularization of daily basis employees in the University at Department of Higher education, Ministry of education, Govt. of Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Attended the meeting of Hindi Granth Academy on behalf of Vice-chancellor, in “Program on Educational Leadership for Vie-chancellors” as Vice-chancellor’s representative, Nov. 24-27, 2008, organized by Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad and in “Vice-Chancellor’s meeting of new Central Universities” held at H.S. Gaur University Sagar for chalking out the programs for academics in new central universities and in Central University Budget meeting held at UGC, New Delhi.
Professor Bajpai has immense academic administration experience, he has served as Convener of the Committee appointed for the regularization of daily basis employees working in the University from last ten years (As per the state government circular), Chairman, Equivalence Committee for deciding the equivalence of various examinations conducted by Universities/boards, Convener of the committee for deciding the policy of reimbursement of medical bills of employees, officers and teachers in serious diseases, Chairman, Steering Committee, University Examinations 2002-2003. (Responsible for University examinations 2003-2004 including central valuation), Chairman, Central Purchase Committee, Guru Ghasidas University, 2007 onwards, Member of Central Flying Squad, 2001- 2007,Coordinator, Steering committee for NAAC accreditation. He has also been responsible for formulating the plan proposals of the University starting from ninth plan to IXth plan up to XII-plan and most of the important proposals submitted by the University to various agencies including UGC.
He is a fellow of International Academy of Physical Sciences, life member of Indian Association of Physics Teachers, National Laser Society, Life member & member of Executive committee of Indian Society for Particle Accelerator, Material research Society of India, Ferroelectrics & Dielectric society of India, Administrative staff college , Hyderabad. Regional Editor of International Journal of Applied Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Published by Maxwell Science Publications. Reviewer of a number of journals.
Dr. Bajpai received several awards and fellowships including National Merit Scholarship (1977-83), S.N. Satymurthy awards Lecture (1993), BARC, Mumbai, Fellow of New York Academy of Sciences, USA, INSA-Costed Visiting Fellowship (1992), SERC visiting fellowship (1995-96), Included in "Marquais World who is who" 15th, 16th & 17th Edition, Member , Board of Directors for research, ABI, USA.
He has delivered more than 55 invited talks in prestigious international national conferences in India and abroad including University of Puerto Rico, North Texas, Yangon University, Yokohama (Japan) IIT, IUAC Delhi, Kharagpur, IIT, Chennai, University of Delhi, Jadavpur Univ., Jaipur, Allahabad, NIT Rourkela, Raipur, CAT , Indore, University of Meerut, Bundelkhand, Raipur, Agra, Gorakhpur, Aurangabad, ASC’s , etc. and chaired many technical sessions and has been the Member of National Advisory Committee for several prestigious Conferences. He has been felicitated by several professional organizations such Orissa Society of Physics, Meghalaya Science Society, NSFD, Rotary Club for his contribution to Science.
He has also evaluated more than 50 Ph.D. dissertations from prestigious Universities of India including those from University of Calcutta, Delhi, Jadavpur, Andhra University, H.N.B. University, Gharwal, NEHU, APS Univ., Rewa, Nagpur, Sambhalpur, Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Bundelkhand, Assam University, Silchar, Bhopal and Bhagalpur University.
Dr. Bajpai has been a member for selection committee for the appointment of faculty in many Universities. He is currently appointed as a Visiting Professor at Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, external Expert for Research Committee in Physics, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, UGC expert for SAP program in Department of Physics, Udaipur University, Rajasthan, and Tejpur, Assam, member of Board of Studies in Physics, Mizoram University, Aizwal.
He has also been a member of the committee constituted by DSIR, New Delhi for inspecting the R & D facility of BALCO, Korba, Chhattisgarh for recognition of BALCO as DSIR recognized R & D laboratory.
