Ahmed Kaseb

Associate Professor

Dr. Ahmed Kaseb is an Associate Professor and Program Director of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), at the Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA. Dr. Kaseb received his medical degree from Cairo University in 1996, and worked as a research fellow at University of Michigan, before starting Residency at Wayne State University, in Detroit, Michigan where he excelled in clinical training and was the recipient of The Best Resident Award. He then finished Medical oncology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital, in Detroit.

Dr. Kaseb joined MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2007 to lead the HCC program, which has expanded over time to cover HCC systemic and multi-disciplinary therapies, in addition to molecular staging. His research also examines the differential effects of demographics and hepatitis status on treatment outcome in HCC, in the US and globally. Based on his interest and research, he has developed several protocols in the treatment and staging of HCC, including a new HCC staging that has been validated internationally. His team work has received governmental and pharmaceutical funding for dozens of projects and clinical trials.

Dr. Kaseb has extensively authored and co-authored over 100 papers, books, abstracts and editorials. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the international “Journal of hepatocellular Carcinoma”, in addition to serving as an Editor and Scientific Reviewer for several international medical journals, and has received several national and international awards throughout his career. He is an active member of several international societies and has served on several national and international committees and advisory boards, and has participated in several international expert consensus conferences in the area of HCC.

Finally, Dr. Kaseb’s program is devoted to developing approaches to facilitate medical research and conducting clinical trials in developing countries such as Egypt. He is the founder and steering committee chairman of the newly launched HCC international consortium that involves 4 universities from Egypt.
