Maja Buljan

Senior research associate

Dr. Maja Buljan was born in Bosnia, city of Sarajevo. She received her B.S. in Physics from University of Zagreb, as well as her Ph.D.  She startedto work at RuderBoskovic Institute as assistant in 2001 where she continued to work as independent researcher after postdoctoral training at Charles University in Prague, Czech, Republic.  She is currently head of the Thin Films Laboratory at the RuderBoskovic Institute.

Her research focuses on nanostructured materials produced by magnetron sputtering deposition and ion-beam modification. She developed a method for self-assembled growth of nanoparticles and nanowires in fully amorphous-glass matrices by magnetron sputtering. She is also involved in development of characterization of nanostructured materials, especially of three-dimensionally ordered by grazing incidence small angle x-ray scattering-GISAXS. Another major interest is production of ordered nanostructures by ion-beam modification of material surfaces or multilayers. Her research combines production methods of novel materials and development of models for description of GISAXS intensity distributions from them. Her research group works also on application of these materials in development of window solar cells and nanoporous filter membranes.
