Wilson was born in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. He earned both his bachelor’s degree in biology, and master’s degree in genetics at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (Philippines). He has taken research positions at the same university for various agriculture-related projects. He is currently a Research Specialist at the National Food Authority – Food Development Center (Philippines).
He is a founding member, and the first President of the Institute of Biological Sciences Graduate Students Association. He is also an active member of the Philippine Society for the Advancement of Genetics, which conducts biennial symposiums in the Philippines.
Wilson is a motivated and resilient plant biotechnologist specializing in genomics and bioinformatics. His background includes abiotic stress tolerance in rice, novel disease resistance induction in saba banana, and understanding unique endosperm phenotypes in coconut using the omics approach. As part of his post in the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños, he has advised over 20 undergraduate and graduate students in the conduct of their theses.
