Dr. Marina Martínez Carmona (MMC), 32 years old, completed a BScs in Chemistry with Honors (2009) and in Biochemistry (2012) at Universidad de Murcia (Spain). In 2011 She received a Grant from the Universidad de Murcia to complete a MSc in Molecular Chemistry and an Initiation grant for research at the Universidad de Murcia, which allowed her to start her research career in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry. During this time her research was based on the synthesis, characterisation and study of the properties of bisimidate complexes of palladium II.

After that, MMC was awarded a scholarship for a PhD at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) working in the field of Mesostructured silica nanomaterials for application in infection and cancer. During her PhD, MMC had the opportunity to make a short pre-doctoral stay (3 months) in the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Bein. She obtained her PhD with Honors by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 2016, as well as the Antonio Doadrio López awards for the best work PhD student at the Royal National Academy of Pharmacy (January 2017) and Rafael Folch to the best Doctoral Thesis of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UCM (May 2017).

In 2017 MMC received a Postdoctoral fellowship from the Irish Research Council to work as a postdoc at Trinity College in Dublin. Currently, she works at School of Chemistry in Trinity College and continues her research in the field of nanomedicine and give some lectures in Master courses.
